Susu & Sons by the Chef Omer Miller has started feeding the craving crowds around early 2017. Since than, Susu & Sons have become a nationwide household name. The chain has positioned itself as a definite leader in the hectic street food scene in Tel Aviv riding the waves of social media's addiction with food porn backed up by super satisfying menu items executed using top quality produce.
There are two options to decide from, Susu Classic vs Susu 20/80.
The classic is an old school patty, served medium well. The 20/80 option is a mixture of the meat with cheese resulting in a Maillard reaction to die for, much superior to the classic cheese on top option. If it was not clear from the above, Burger Review team recommends the 20/80 option as a hands down winner.
** In the past, the menus had some other 20% option like bone marrow and goose liver, as far as Burger Review team knows, this is now more of a trivia item from better days that would not return.
The famously known X shape on top of a pretzel like bun is one of the main visible features of Susu & Sons. Burger Review team finds the bun to be firm and filling, neutrally tasting and does not over diverting the attention from the savory experience. Although, the bun does its job magnificently as liquid blocking handles, we feel like the application of butter to both sides of the bun before the toasting would have elevated the sandwich to an even higher place.
When choosing a classic burger the served cheese is an american yellow/orange cheese that enriches the taste of the patty and does not create a burden on the taste buds. The Millard effect that results from the 20/80 option is less noticeable visually but creates a stronger effect on the overall texture and taste.
** Susu & Sons offer a wide variety of topping to choose from including other cheesy options like blue cheese, garlic butter and ever mac and cheese.
Susu & Sons do not serve pickles by default and suffice with tomato, lettuce and onions.
Before the arrival of the burger, the bun gets a measured and firm smear of susu sauce - a very mild spicy ailoli. On top of that, there are stations to free fill ketchup, mayo and mustard.
